Just finished watching Arrival. Meaning I've now seen a third of the nominees for Best Picture, including Moonlight - the winner - and La La Land - the supposed front-runner before Awards Night. Of the three, La La Land was far & away the best, and it really wasn't anything special. Not a patch on any number of movies from the past. Moonlight was ok, but far from great, and I suspect will be pretty much forgotten within a few years, and Arrival was risible: all style, no substance whatsoever.
Here's a full list of the Best Picture finalists:
Arrival
Fences
Hacksaw Ridge
Hell or High Water
Hidden Figures
La La Land
Lion
Manchester by the Sea
Moonlight
Was any of them a really good movie? One that will still be regarded as such in, say, 20 years?
