Watch it!

Do you wear a watch in bed?

  • Yes, because I'm a constantly prepared, go getting man/woman of action

  • No, its utterly ridiculous and you're all daft as a brush.

  • Due to a terrible cocaine/amphetamine habit, or working in the NHS, I never actually sleep.

I haven't worn a watch since I retired, before I retired I only wore a watch when I was at work.

When I was given my first watch, a Timex, on my 8th birthday, I was told that wearing it in bed was bad for the mechanism.
So I'd never worn a watch in bed until I was given a fitness tracking watch last Christmas. It's supposed to measure sleep patterns. Last Saturday night I slept for 15 hours, which included dinner and cycling to the shop for my rolls and Sunday paper. The latter may have been a dream as apparently I was in REM sleep at the time.
I've now gone back to my old watch as it tells the time without annoying me. I don't wear it in bed as it's bad for the mechanism.

I have worn a watch almost all the time since the age of about 11. I am now 60.

About the only time I didn't wear a watch was whilst kayaking, as it was not comfortable under the wrist seal of my dry cag. I fixed an old waterproof watch to a bit of velcro strap and attached it to my buoyancy aid, so I still had means of keeping track of time.

Incidentally, luminous paint on watch dials isn't what it used to be. Of course, it used to be radioactive, which was why my dad's watch, that he acquired in Germany just after WW2, had numbers and hands that glowed right through the night, whereas my relatively modern 15 year old Seiko has numbers and hands that only glow for maybe 30 minutes or so.......

You cycled to the shop and ate dinner while asleep?

According to the 'smart' watch's sleep tracking app I did.
I don't think it's 100% accurate.

I never wore a watch until about 3 years ago, when i just happened to come across a book on horology. I didn't really know that such a thing as an 'automatic' watch existed. I bought myself a cheap Russian diver, changed the strap for a James Bond type and it's never been off my wrist.

Not worn a watch for 30 years or so.
I had a couple of very nice watches but was forever scratching and damaging them while working so I would take them off and put them in my pocket.
After a while I just left them in a drawer.
Never bothered after that.
