Watch it!

Do you wear a watch in bed?

  • Yes, because I'm a constantly prepared, go getting man/woman of action

  • No, its utterly ridiculous and you're all daft as a brush.

  • Due to a terrible cocaine/amphetamine habit, or working in the NHS, I never actually sleep.

I bought one of these here waterproof self-setting Casio jobs so I never need to take it off. It's useful becuase it has a light, so I can see what time it is when the kid wakes us up by getting into our bed. If it's between midnight and 4am I go and sleep in her room. Any later and I tolerate the duvet theft and shin-kicking.

The strap broke between Christmas and New Year and so I didn't wear if for a few days whilst I sorted out a replacement - never feels right.

I'd not even worn a watch for years, then i got a fit bit for a birthday.
I only wear it now as i do a tame job.
If i was still working with machines and heavy materials i'd not wear it.

That's progress. We've gone from a nigh on indestructible, self setting, solar powered Casio G Shock, to one that needs taking off and charging.
Use something like this during the day. No need to take the watch off then.

Not worn a watch for 30 years or so.
I had a couple of very nice watches but was forever scratching and damaging them while working so I would take them off and put them in my pocket.
After a while I just left them in a drawer.
Never bothered after that.

My Vostok has an acrylic 'glass' so any scratches (as long as they are not too deep) I can polish out myself with a bit of Brasso or whitening toothpaste.

Incidentally, luminous paint on watch dials isn't what it used to be. Of course, it used to be radioactive, which was why my dad's watch, that he acquired in Germany just after WW2, had numbers and hands that glowed right through the night, whereas my relatively modern 15 year old Seiko has numbers and hands that only glow for maybe 30 minutes or so.......

Many people do a re-luming service.

I never wore a watch until about 3 years ago, when i just happened to come across a book on horology. I didn't really know that such a thing as an 'automatic' watch existed. I bought myself a cheap Russian diver, changed the strap for a James Bond type and it's never been off my wrist.

B/Vostock? I love the look of the "Nato" straps, but can't get on with them myself.

I always wear a decent watch and decent shoes, both are things that I notice about others. A decent watch (Seiko 5) can cost as little as £60, shoes a bit more, hardly bank breaking.

I have found that people who give any attention to watches and the wearing thereof are utter nobbers
Until you need to know the time...

Metal straps FTW.
Ahem, bracelets. I prefer those but you have to fanny about adjusting, depending on temps, winter I wear leather straps.
I want one for my 2001 Oris BC3, but they are £300+, I can get another decent watch for that!

My dog on the other hand doesn't wear a watch but he know precisely when it's 4 o clock, although he hasn't got the hang of BST/GMT.

Not only does our dog know when it's time to get up, time to go to bed, all the eating times in between and when it's Dentastix time, but he can also hear the fridge open from anywhere in the house or garden...^_^
