The Seiko Sportura I wear daily is only about 5 years old, a fair few hundred £'s new, yet you cannot buy a replacement bezel, they are no longer (if they ever were) available. It's a great watch for work but the bezel is now scratched badly, it's an integrated unit with the glass, 5 years old but you can't buy a spare part, last Seiko I'll ever own.

Just had a Google, nice looking kettle. My best mates dad bought him a Seiko automatic watch for his 21st Birthday 34 years ago. He was still wearing it when he died last year, only watch he ever had.

For some reason I felt the "need" to buy a watch a couple of years ago. I started doing a little browsing on the internet and decided on Citizen Eco-Drive. I did some price shopping and found one I liked pretty cheap. The numbers even glow in the dark. ^_^ I have worn it twice I think. I do keep it under the lamp on my desk, so it gets light to charge it daily. I saw this thread and thought I would pick it up and admire it. The accuracy on this thing is pretty amazing to me. It is only 22 seconds fast since I set it when I bought it.

I used to have a few watches but now I am down to one. I never wear it and only still have it because it was bought for me by Mrs Colly, billions of years ago. I found I was forever breaking the strap or snapping off the winder when working so I began to simply do without.

Bit of a love affair with good watches here, I have - Breitling aerospace titanium, 1971 omega seamaster, omega constellation automatic (18th birthday present from the folks) and my favourite IWC Schaffhausen. The chap mentioned in the original post is a customer of mine, I've been to his workshop quite a number of times.

If I could design it myself then possibly.
I absolutely hate chunky big watches, they look awful IMHO, which is also why I like the thin understated look of a lot of Mondaines', particularly the Swiss Railway ones.

By the way, I have just checked, the clock on my iPad isn't a Mondaine face (as far as I know anyway).

Buy the man's book, and make your own !
That's what I did - well, I've done the first part, just need to get my files out, and perhaps trade in my Colchester for something a little smaller

The book is a work of art - and a real bargain at the £30 odd now asked. I paid £50 and fully expected it to become collectible for a few hundred.
If you are remotely interested in watches, or beautiful precision mechanisms in any field, you need this book !

If I were truly filthy rich I would perhaps buy a Daniels. Might be tempted by a fake watch though.

I have a titanium Seiko sportura kinetic and a Suunto Core All Black. Really like them both, the Seiko is quite plain and the Suunto has bells and whistles.

I bought Seiko 5 automatics for my sons, I think I paid £35-£45 "as new", IMO they are wonderful things, the 7S36 movement will last a lifetime and they look as good as watches 10x the cost.

Mine is a quartz Sportura, unusual for me not to wear an automatic, but I wanted a beater watch for work to take abuse but still look ok in the office. Mine is the same as in the pic, the case lugs are curved so that it sits extremely comfortably on the wrist, this is the main reason that I bought it. Normally the watch should still be worth £200+ but because you can't get the replacement bezels (and people know this) you often see 100% functioning examples but with scratched bezels going for sub £100 on Ebay, fantastic value!
