£21.93? Can't possibly tell the right time at that price! No wonder the buses in Leeds are all over the place...

I have a Wave Ceptor also, this one I use when I am out on my bike.

On reflection, call this tacky, but I'm quite a fan of Swatches. I'd give anything to once again own my first one, c. 1987.
Fleabay? Forget it. The eBay search engine can't differentiate between the words 'Swatch' and 'watch', so you end up with the entire listing of 181,612 (whatever) watches on offer at the time.
Unless anyone has found a better way of searching?

Doesn't ebay have a brand filter, left hand side?

Edit: yes it does - well there's over 9000 of 'em!!

Don't bother with eBay, Charlie - all those watches are only second hand.

I don't collect, but I do 'get it'. I had a Swatch for a while, but they cannot be serviced, so when the stopwatch ceased to zero itself, it had to go in the bin, which seemed crazy for something that looked so nice.

To replace it, I pushed the boat out and got the classic Omega Moonwatch. I then picked up an 80s Seiko diver for scrapping about in and swimming etc. (Moonwatch has all the water resistance of a lace thong). That would never keep time so well (especially if it was exposed to a pressure drop like on a plane), and nobody seemed to want to service it. So I popped it in a drawer and found the boat pole again ... Omega Planet Ocean.

Mrs doctornige got herself a really hard-to-find automatic Cartier Santos.

The problem with high end mechanical watches is the same as with high end bikes ... The servicing cost on a Moonwatch is £350 and it needs it every four or so years. The Cartier is currently with the Basel outlet awaiting a quote for the same.

But, I get it. I like a nice watch - they are an interesting harmonization of technology, utility, style and bling. Men don't wear much jewellery, and a nice watch is a nifty thing to have.

Exact same strap? Might be a Tag specific problem, same as Nike trainers smell of cat pee. Out of 100's of watches that have passed through my hands, it's been unusual to have a smelly strap, unless it's come from a smoker. As Ianrauk says, there are plenty of suitable silicon/rubber straps available to suit your watch.
Yup, the exact same strap. It was the one it came with. Then I bought a direct replacement from the Tag website and that was the same. As for Nikes, I've refused to buy them for years (I'm an ASICS man) due to them bonding the midsole EVA with urea emanating a strong Dame Judy of cat piss. And I am a vehement anti-smoker and always have been BTW!

Aargh! Analogue/digital dial.

Collecting brings you into contact with many specialist people, one man band experts. £350 for an Omega Speedmaster/Moonwatch service? I think I paid about £80 last year. The cost will vary with the movement. Servicing my other watches of which many have ETA movements is less than £50, at an AD, much, much more.

I crashed my bike on an icy corner one morning. I landed basically ON the Omega Planet Ocean. Smashed left rear skewer, hole in my tights, grazed arm, twisted thumb and bruised shoulder. ZERO damage to the watch. They are engineered to the max for a reason. I wear my Omega on the bike because I know it will survive the vibration and the odd crash.
