If you removed water from the atmosphere, its humidity would decrease. Reducing the humidity would reduce rainful, and increase the chances of a drought.

We are completely doomed.:smile:
hmm..ok..but wouldnt the water produced remain in the water cycle and go back to th esky as steam when it's heated up by the sun?

I wasn't being entirely serious, but you are correct, I think. The sum total of water remains the same...it's just that it is in an awkward/distant place. I don't know where the stuff is stashing itself away at the moment. It could be growing ice sheets in parts of Antarctica or lochs in Scotland. It's a worry.:smile:

I think it's time that we started to incentivise population decline - maybe tax credits for people who don't have kids?

There is a bit about the effects of population decline on a nations economy here, can't say how accurate it is though (scroll down to Economic consequences).

Needless to say it seems to be (again) one of those situations where what is optimal for capitalism and what is optimal for environmental sustainability are diametrically opposite.
