Waterproof shorts

I don't understand this. How can one have waterproof shorts. It's raining, on a bike, in shorts, how can one possibly keep dry?

I get the idea of a material which dries quickly but surely not waterproof. There two big holes where the legs poke out!

Do you ever use waterproof jackets? They have one more hole than shorts do! :P

For commuting, I did use waterproof trousers in really heavy rain, and overshoes. The main reason was to keep the shoes dry - as the trousers covered the top of the overshoes, so no water got in. They were hot, but I slowed down a bit.

Thanks everyone for your feedback and suggestions, I do have a bit of a bugbear hanging on from my years when my biking largely involved an engine and that sudden wet crotch was a most unwelcome surprise. So I guess a lot of it is jacket run off, less fussed about legs or even footwear to a certain extent. Having wet shreddies for a number of hours doesn't make for a happy chappy

This is why Rainlegs mostly work, being significantly longer than lycra shorts.
If they were made from a better material (like Goretex) they might be about perfect ...

Mine need replacing as the plastic like inner has peeled off ,had them a long time so they have earned thir keep

Rainlegs also have the advantage of being fantastically stylish. Fashion meets practicality.

I would rather get wet.
