Okay so the bikes are currently living in the conservatory which also houses a knackered old sofa and some other bits and bobs. The bikes are currently leaning against each other . We don't really use the conservatory to sit in so I am taking the executive decision to get rid of the scabby old sofa and turn it into a bike room. Being a conservatory there is no where to hang the bikes so I was thinking of a floor based rack to stand them in. I am very excited about having a dedicated bike room. What else do I need?? :hyper:

A nice new easy chair on which to sit as you admire your bicycles and a nail or hook near the stands to hang your cycle clips. and that's it really.
I'm assuming you already have another room set up as a cycle workshop.

Brilliant. We've got numerous bikes all leaning and locked together in the garage. I have a cunning plan in the summer to have a massive clear out and put a proper rack of some description in.

a decent work bench as it is your workshop (easily made with some 6X4 and a load of thick 1/2" or so plywood for the top and a whole bunch of big bolts, oh and lots and lots of noise!)
make sure it is warm! a bike work stand like so http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BIKE-BICY...sure_Cycling_BikeLocks_SR&hash=item5400b7cec2

a turbo is great for both training and setting up gears and brakes etc as then you can test them inside under the normal riding stresses and conditions
some cupboards for all the gear and tools etc (this is best for those with OCD and those who want to stay in a relationship!)

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Having tried a number of different stands (lucky enough to have enough space to keep 3 bikes in the study) I recommend these - as used by lots of bike shops for display

when i have my own bedroom i shall have a few bikes stashed away in there and a nice char to sit staring and drooling over them and then a tiny bit of space to get dressed in my lycra and then a miniature bed!
