So as a ball park figure where do I start £ wise. The current site is about number 2 on google when searching for windscreen repair tools which is the tools I sell.

The new site would require a shop for 30 items and optimisation for phone/tablet etc.

Am I talking £1,000 or £10,000

Ballpark for an e-commerce site I reckon you'd be looking at around £1,500 to £2k. That's factoring in design, copy, build and a bit of training on how to update the site/shop.

If your just selling (as in ecommerce) I would highly recommend OpenCart. There are several videos on YouTube showing how to modify content on the software etc.

The guy who did my website charged me £500 to upload all the content. I also had someone do some 'pretty' slider images and a few other things for another £100. PM me if you would like the contact information of the guys who did the work for me.

My website. (Mods, please remove if this breaks any rules)

The whole 'top of Google' thing isn't a con, but it is dependent on many, many factors. You will probably quite naturally float to the top for a search phrase like 'Tamarind Teapots in Tiverton',
Someone had to :okay:

Surely you can get free website software that alows you to do it all very easily without using expensive website designers and you can do it exactly to your own style.

I work almost exclusively with Wordpress / WooCommerce, and it is indeed totally free. I encourage clients to get involved in the tech side, but only if they want to, and they almost never do.

I have a very good friend who is a plumber. When he visits my house to fit a new tap or something I am interested in the ways he works and the tools he uses. I have fitted my own taps in the past so could do it again. But fitting my own taps will take me many hours more than the few minutes it takes my plumber friend to complete the job. Therefore I consider the modest fee he charges me to be good value for money. He is also unlikely to cause a flood...

Like Andrew I would rather pay a proffesional and go out an earn myself. Maybe not in this case but most times I can earn more than the person doing the job will charge me.

Also my creative skills both in writing and art work are shall we say limited.
