So did you manage to ping it (see rh100's post) or not? If you can't ping it, does it at least resolve the IP address (94.126.144.44)?

yes and got no reply, 50 packets sent and nothing back and nothing successful. Site cookies are not excluded and i have spent some time on this without success and am about to give up on trying to solve it, which is a shame as it is a useful site and a good place to look if the software I want is not in the repositories.

well the last thing you can try if you are desperate is to restore your system back to a point in time when your browser worked properly. Select a suitable date before this problem started. If that doesn't work you can always reverse it.
Do back up important files first just in case. You should do this anyway ;)

OK, if no reply from the ping, I'm guessing not browser related. Possibly software firewall/AV or router firewall, have you tried disabling both to test this?

Do you have another PC in the house you can try it on? Especially a windows pc, so you can rule out the PC setup or LAN

I don't know too much about Ubuntu but does Linux/ubuntu also use tracert?

tracert 94.126.144.44

this should reply with a series of IP addresses, and where it stops is the broken link I think, so you should be able to tell if it's in your LAN or out in internet land where the problem is.

Hmmmm.......just tried the site again and appears to be down from here also, was ok 5 minutes ago.......anyone else?

Sounds like something is blocking access to that IP could be that a whole IP range has been blocked for spamming or iffy content.

It could be your ISP and my router has a "safe" setting where it obtains a list of "bad" IP's from some server and blocks access. Never used it myself but its there!

It might be software based but I guess that you'd know if there was some safe surfing software installed on your computer though.

;) Sorry lads looks like i dropped the ball there, I started that thread and after about the third post I stopped monitoring it. I don't think the mention of o2 was a red herring as I am on o2, I think the red herring was http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/http://www.getdeb.net/
after seeing that I concentrated on looking for problems on my computer and stopped watching the ubuntu forums. however it doesn't matter as I can access the site now. I haven't changed anything here but its back, I wonder if o2 have changed something? I E-Mailed them and haven't had a reply yet.

www.getdeb.net is unavailable again. The reply to me E-Mail from o2 sugested that getdeb were operating a blacklist. I contacted getdeb by E-Mail with this information and I was told that there was no blacklist, they also asked to E-Mail them with more information, which i gave them. I have had no reply to this yet. I have E-mailed them again to tell them they are unavailable again and am waiting for a reply.
