Out for a drive today for a change of scenery. Also wanted to collect some handlebars. That'll give me something to tinker with tomorrow.
It's been a decade since I had actual Dura Ace group set stuff on a bike at all (7800 10 speed). I've an option to buy a NOS set of 9100 in rim brake and mechanical shifting spec. It would replace current 11 speed Ultegra 6800 / 8000 series components.
Q: Is it worth doing? It looks better by miles, but does it function better?

dura ace is lighter, probably also shinier and therefore better, reportedly shifts a bit smoother too, though i'm sram red etap so not tried it

Keeps on getting battered wherever he goes, I heard.
I have a bike with Dura Ace 9100 and it’s a very smooth change. I have never tried 11 speed Ultegra but it’s way better than my bikes with 11 speed 105.

You've answered your own question there. If it looks miles better you've got a bit of leeway so that even if it's a bit crap you'll still come out ahead.

I’ve never had SRAM of any flavour on a roadie. Been keeping an eye out for an ETap set but they seem pretty scarce. That said, this frame is all external cable routing and might look odd with nothing in the downtube stops.
Just wish I could find some Yokozuna outers. 😎

Ok, thank you. The Ultegra is pretty good, no complaints really. Only downside of the DA is there’s no medium cage rear mech available so a max of 30T cassette, and around here it’s either all pretty flat and easy OR stupid steep climbs. I’ve a 32 on there at the moment which has been ”helpful”!

sram really didn't develop etap after initial release, then released the axs range which wasn't compatible, stopped making etap, and left etap owners in the lurch, which caused much bad feeling and a loss of trust in sram vs. shimano
to solve the etap support problem, sram eventually released some new bits, including axs parts that would interoperate with etap, but in the meantime prices on nos/used etap parts went through the roof, presumably as people bought spares - i picked up a new rear mech last year 'just in case', after the old one got a bit of a beating when the hanger snapped, fortunately it was ok, still using it
imo another factor in etap scarcity is that some people don't want 12-speed - for me red etap was peak sram, i've zero interest in axs/12-speed
i'm eking out my nokon beads, sadly had to revert to steel brake cables as dupont stopped making powercordz

I'm no expert WS, but I like the SRAM AXS on my Planet X. Works well.
