In Londinium we have a good few weird named pubs. Off the top of my head I know and have been to.

The Only Running Footman.
Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese (a sometime Cycle Chat drinks venue)
The Bleedin' Heart Tavern
Dirty Dicks
The Ship and Shovell
The Pyrotechnists Arms
The Mad Bishop and Bear
John The Unicorn

My local pub is called The Buff
And a pub that has opened near work is called The Job Centre.

Often local history or names due to local lore. They often also have a moral message

There are a couple of pubs around here called "The Black Boy"

Allegedly it is the story of a Sailor's Wife who strayed whilst he was away at sea, and the baby was black. Hence it was a moral story about the cost of infidelity... the same story also attaches to the "Labour in vain"

There are other variations onto name origin.

My favourite name though must be "Ye Olde Tippling Philosopher"

My local pub is called the Victoria Hotel. Nothing unusual about that but it's unofficial name is the Butcher Brig(bridge). It's called that because when it was first built(1904)there was a butcher who sold meat outside the pub. People would cross a railway bridge to go and buy meat. The Bridge went when the railway line was filled in, in 1972/3.

used to drink in a pub in Harrow called The Case is Altered. Supposedly a corruption of Casa Alta, name brought back by the army in the Napoleonic Wars in Spain
