Welders/garage central Manchester

Hi,

I have a metal lectern at our conference venue in Manchester, quite a bulky, heavy and expensive bit of kit!

The welding on that base has failed so needs rewelding and I guess a quick silver respray. The manufacturers have gone out of business so need to source repair myself.

Any suggestions local to Northern Quarter who might be able to repair - maybe independant local garage? Ideally someone who can collect?

Hi,

Two attached pics show complete lectern and also the base from the inside that shows the failed weld on the left.

Not much to weld, but guess might need a respray after welding. Would also need collecting (it's bloody heavy)!

The respray would be the difficult bit, matching up the silver colour. Not sure how that would work out without a full respray.

It looks like the base can be unbolted to make it lighter. Maybe a bit of dismantling first would be a good thing.

What's the repair budget? I may know someone who can spray it.

I'm guessing it will need spraying after the welding - but maybe not? welding is on the inside - would that affect the paint on the outside? Not sure the whole thing will need spraying if the bottom bolts off (not sure about the top) colour match between the middle and the bottom doesn't need to be exact.

Have no idea re budget - but we need a lectern!

If you can give me a price to collect, weld, spray and return?

You could probably get away from a full respray with just a contrasting border around the bottom, sprayed or brushed.

Not sure even that.. don't think it would look bad if the silver wasn't exactly the same...

Not urgent to get repaired although the turnaround would need to be quite quick as used most days and would have to hire a replacement while away.

Commercial furniture and events hire companies would generally have them.

By the way, I used to go to a welders in Prestwich (or was it Whitefield?) for one-off jobs, when i was doing Rights Of Way work.

it's a 10 min job tops, I could do it although I don't have a welder and don't live near (just mean it's a simple job)

there might be a bit of blackening to the metal on the other side so a bit of spray might be a good idea - could be done with a £10 rattle can from halfords

We usually use Remote AV for conferencing hire needs in Manchester...

people with a generator and mig in the back of a van, come and do it on site.

it's a 10 min job tops, I could do it although I don't have a welder and don't live near (just mean it's a simple job)

Not a chance our landlords would allow welding onesite - or anywhere near!

Needs to be removed from site altogether!
