Not looking forward to tomorrow, my lad is racing CX in Nottingham just as the 45 MPH winds hit. Don't think he will be happy if I call it unsafe on the start line.

A weather bomb is a cyclonic system with a pressure drop of 24mb in 24hrs. Also called explosive cyclogenesis. Technically that's what Bwian is, a real, bona fide weather bomb, not the usual press defined weather bomb, which in their dictionary means "a spot of crap weather".

A friend has barograph trace of The Great Storm of '87 made on one of these. It was from his parents' home in the Chilterns. The ink line looks like the edge of a cliff.

The winds are just picking up here in 'The Great East Midlands'. It's not often that the Met Office rekease weather warnings for out part of the country.
