well if he keeps at it, he can try for Monsieur Marchand's hour record in about 19 years !
(fair play to him though).
Story rather reminds me of a caving trip I did a few years ago, taking some guys (mid 20's) from work on their 1st & 2nd trip respectively.
The founder member of my club wandered up saying "can I come along?". The two lads were too polite to say anything but they did give me a rather questioning look when this clearly very elderly gentleman was joining the trip. (about 84 as I recall). Trip went OK with the older chap grumbling about "it's rubbish being old, my balance isn't very good these days, a trip like this is all I can manage now" and more in similar vein. After a couple of hours we returned to sunlight One youngster sat down quite tired to get his breath back whilst the other collapsed onto the grass just gasping for about 10 minute - the old chap just strode off quickly back to our clubhouse - still grumbling. A great moment - which I knew was coming, though of course, was very much a surprise for the lads.
