Long over due update on our situation after Harvey blew through town. Well we lost everything, the house, two cars, all the furniture (except one teak cabinet), most electronics, 90% of our clothes and shoes and a bunch more stuff.
Bikes survived and after replacing bearings and such like I'm back riding again.

Of course no insurance as like our neighbours we didn't live in a flood plain. So as I approach fifty I'm applying for a fecking huge second mortgage to have our home rebuilt from scratch.

Good thing is family are all safe and we have a temporary flat to call home for the next year while we rebuild.

More wheels than sense
That sounds a scary place to find yourselves in but so glad to hear the family is all safe

All good luck with rebuilding your life, and glad to hear you have a base to do it from.

Thanks. And while the whole thing was and remains very sobering it's also been a surprisingly uplifting change due to the shear amount of help people have given. Folks have provided free accomodation, free cars to borrow temporarily , free food and when we needed to strip out the house and chuck out everything out, 30 people turned up over 4 days to help.

Me standing in our street just outside our front door on the day of our evacuation (water rose another 2 feet after we left the house). By the way, our home is 30ft higher than the nearest stream which is a quarter mile away.

Thanks for the support.

Not sure where the smile comes from, but for me it's a similar feeling to cresting a climb after a long ride where you're already done, worn out, spent, cream-crackered, nothing left and yet you're still able to pull something out of the bag. A wee smile of accomplishment when you think you've nothing left.

Maybe you were thinking "Oh, FFS,. Well, at least things can't get any worse!" ... But then they did!
