Reet, i'm sat here: https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=wa...gNrOOwCcxkEq-2mAKTwI-w&cbp=12,130.72,,0,19.38

wow thats a long link.
anyhoo i'm on mancy road turning right to go through the lights to go left onto the A57. there's a line of cars waiting to go through the lights so i'm waiting to turn onto the B road its not a bad junction per-say but this morning my problem was the jackass behind me.
so the traffic goes through the lights and i set off hoping to get the green before it changes. BUT the idiot behind me is i kid you not less then 3 feet from my back wheel i'm freaking out because the light changes to orange and i HAD to go through, if i'd have braked i'd have become a bloody hood ornament. predictably the car followed me through as the light went red then badly overtook and sped off.
now i know a solid amber is stop if safe to do so, so i reckon i got off with that one but still...

Yup, stop if safe to do so. It wasn't, so you didn't. No harm, no foul.

If you could have stopped without performing an emergency stop, then I would have been attempted to do so. But if he was that close to you that you couldnt even do that, then I expect you are within your right to go through on amber. Just was long as it isnt on red.

I hate that junction, the road surface is worse than the Moon.

You know you can hop onto the pavement there, a hundred yards or so of being slow and careful, and you're onto a shared cycle path that's actually rather pedestrian-free?

How fast were you going? I tend to stop and I've not been hit by a muppet yet. There's not that many stupid enough to beep me either although every once in a while I have to have a chat with someone.

Your call. If you feel unsafe e stopping then do what you need to.

My only point is that contrary, to what it may feel like, 99.9999% of drivers would do anything rather than run into you.

I think you may miss my point. Although you may have a driver behind you at an amber light he is very unlikely to run into you if you stop. It tends to mess up their day a little.

That whole area is a nightmare for speeding traffic, if possible avoid or use the pavement till its more safe to jump back on the road.

Much like this, from me. I was further from the line (only just got over the line before the red), and really wanted to stop, but this guy was right on my wheel, and I honestly thought that if I stopped he would squish me. Of course, he followed me through!

Sometimes I doubt that.

Can't really see a problem with you going through the yellow there.

Doubt away. It is still a rare occurrence that a cyclist is rear-ended by a motorist. Brakes on a car are better than those on a bike plus a bike isn't actually that hard not to run into if you really try. How many times have you been rear-ended by a car? None have hit me so far and I've only had one instance where I stopped at an amber light and the car behind chose to accelerate around me, still didn't hit me though.

Just think of what would happen if they did hit you: police involved; prosecution; insurance and all for something that's completely different from misjudging a cyclists' speed and pulling out for example.

Police involved if it isn't hit and run?
