Did you mean actual neoprene i.e. like surfers use? From a quick search these are mainly really thick (3mm?), so would seem to create fit problems. Otherwise I very much like the sound of your suggestion!

Or perhaps you mean the new(ish) plehtora of waterproof sock like the Sealskins (Otter, Dexshell et al ...)? I've just ordered some (reduced to ~£10 on Amazon!!) as a cheap experiment.

I'm a big fan of winter boots now (after quite a few winters with them), but I now do enough summer riders affected by downpours (<whispers> climate change??) that I'm interested in other approaches.

Yes, 3mm neoprene as per the surfers.

My current pair are these, now ~£13 today, got mine for ~£10 Dec '23 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07FM81X5Z?th=1&psc=1

I was given a pair just after becoming a postie ~15 years ago, but for years I only wore them on wet days, before discovering they were great with a thin summer sock underneath for any cool days through autumn/winter.

Our tumble dryer has a rack for drying shoes that clips inside the door so they don't clonk around like you're living next door to Ginger Baker..

I think this is a complete myth.

Remember that single celled organisms (think sperm, eggs and embryos, all of which are more complex than bacteria) are routinely preserved alive at minus 196 under liquid nitrogen, the idea that a domestic freezer kills bacteria seems far fetched.

See eg for food https://www.npr.org/sections/thesal...ezing-food-doesnt-kill-e-coli-and-other-germs

What it will do is reduce the volatility of smelly organic chemicals.

This comes from how to stop climbing shoes from stinking. They are often made of synthetic materials and worn bare foot so they get sweaty and smelly. So it’s a much discussed topic on climbing forums and this apparently is a solution.
I just leave mine in the garage and as I’m the only one who goes in there it doesn’t matter if they pong.

It might stop them ponging, but not by killing bacteria, I think
