IMO Clarkson's "We're right, they're idiots, let's trash a caravan" approach legitimises bad behaviour from that minority of his fans* who aren't smart enough to separate reasoning and common sense from dumb prejudice. Sure he may be smarter than that, but he's made his money telling idiots what they want to believe is true.
The bloke in the car obviously thought Clarkson was the best narrator for a bit of car-supremacy-based humour. We can debate the finer points of Clarkson's own values but this is the message he is sending in practice.
(* fans is the wrong word of course, his target market is far too blokey to consider themselves fans. They are just a bunch of people who enjoy watching him and thinks he talks a lot of sense. Which amounts to the same thing).
And don't get me started on Chris Moyles!
