What a beautiful day

That's it. Went for a lovely (but not far) ride through Surrey, just averted sunburn by a lunchtime application of sunscreen. Drivers also seemed to be enjoying the weather, and mostly gave plenty of room and very little aggro.

Reminded me why I love cycling.

I hope most of you got to enjoy the day, too.

(legs still stinging from nettle attack during tyre change, and slight groinal injury caused by forgetting to lift as I hit a pothole, but they just serve to throw the rest of the day into sharp relief)

Even the punctured riding buddy wasn't too annoying I hope

Yep, even here in the normally frozen North it's been a glorious day despite the weather forecast promising something very different.

Got a nice local circuit on the bike in this morning and have spent most of the afternoon sat in garden enjoying the sunshine, with a BBQ for tea.:sun:

Thanks for the photos @NorthernDave and @Fab Foodie. Sadly took no photos today, and the only one I considered taking was of a traffic jam on the M25, to illustrate how much better cycling is. I didn't, because smugness would have killed my vibe.

And thanks to @vickster for dragging me out into the sunshine, and not complaining when I hovered over her puncture repair interleaving unwanted advice with "ouch" whenever I ran into the nettles. I don't remember how many times I nettled myself. I just kept heading to them.

(Nettles are the one endemic plant from England that settlers decided not to introduce to Australia. Despite all the horrors you hear about Australian wild life, nettle sting is probably the second worst pain nature has inflicted on me, after European honey bees.)

Edit: Dammit! I didn't avoid sunburn. A touch on the upper arms, because I am wearing a top with shorter sleeves than usual.

And I was raised on this

A beautiful TWO days up here; must be a first this year to have both Saturday and Sunday being good cycling weather.
Yesterday morning I booked a hotel for last night, in Newton Stewart - 80 hilly miles away. Took me all day but I got there using my Genesis Croix de Fer, bought on here late last summer.
Had a nice relaxing night in the hotel and then after breakfast this morning cycled 22 miles to Barrhill for the train. Initially I had intended to take the train home but on reaching Irvine I got off and cycled the final 23 miles home (yes; AFTER buying a ticket for the complete journey!).

I did the Five Pits Trail in North Derbyshire on a borrowed Fold-up and the weather was spot on. Not as flat as I'd anticipated on a route that I assume used to be used by trains and horses for transporting coal! About 16 miles including to and from the campsite.

I had a lovely ride in the sun this morning, I'm sat here tired and with aching legs but I've had a great day
Yep. We went and sat in the sun near the coast to listen to the jazz band playing. The sun seemed to have gone to people's heads today so despite thinking that I must hold back a bit on the outward leg, I think the combination of three of today's riders having done Ride London recently, two about to do Lap of Anglia and (unusually) everyone on road bikes made it faster than usual and I paid for it later by basically running out of oomph 4 miles (and one hill) shy of home... real "man with the hammer" stuff, done for the day, not knocking but just spinning away not really able to accelerate any more... but my lovely wife let me draft that last bit
