Well following my recent conversion to tubulars, I stupidly decided to take a chance and do a club run today with no spare, and not even any Pit Stop or other sealant. Well you can guess what happened!
40 miles in, flint in centre of road, hiss of air followed by flat rear tyre.
Of course it had to happen in the middle of nowhere! Still I wasn't too worried, I'd at least had the sense to ask my wife to be on standby to pick me up...
So got phone out of pocket, just in time to see screen die! Borrowed another riders phone, got wife's answerphone. Left message for her to come and pick me up at nearest town, told the guys to go on, and started walking.
Suffice to say, an hour or so later, I called a taxi! Wifey's idea of standby is leaving the phone upstairs whilst she cooks Sunday roast!
Still, my fault and lesson learned. Next time, Pit Stop x 2, plus spare tub and rim tape!
And at least it wasn't raining, and I got 40 miles in before it all went Pete Tong! Really is sods law though, the only time I go out without any spares, and it just had to happen, and the phone had to be flat (I had charged it overnight, not sure why Map My Ride drained it so quickly)
Hey ho!...
