I have a suspicion that we've let slip more about the moderating process than Shaun would be happy with

. As it's raised a few questions it's probably best to clarify things rather than leave it open to speculation:
How do I find out how many points I have?
If you need to ask, you almost certainly haven't got any.

I seem to have completely missed that London thread,..........
so what happened ? clearly all the naughty bits have been deleted. So again, if all the juicy bits have gone there are no examples to view of where the unacceptability line is drawn.[/QUOTE]If you'd seen the posts in the thread in question you'd have absolutely
no doubt that they overstepped the mark.
The simple answer the rest of the time is to have a read of the site rules:
https://www.cyclechat.net/forums/guidelines-rules-and-faqs.180/ Everything you need to know about what is acceptable is in there and the mods are willing to answer questions if anything is unclear.
Going back to points; these are for the use of the moderators only and aren't visible to members. As a rough guide; serious breaches of the rules, for example: directly insulting another member, issuing threats or deliberate trolling
* will earn you a warning point. You will receive a PM from the mods reminding you about your behaviour and referring to the rule being broken. If you continue to break the rules you will rack up more points which will result in bans being applied automatically. These get longer each time until you are excluded from the site if you still can't take the hint.
Less serious breaches include stuff like posting inappropriate material, nit-picking or taunting another member
*. These don't
usually attract a point but the moderators do have the option to add one depending on the circumstances (a saucy picture would be treated differently from one with full-frontal nudity for example) or if we are constantly having to remind for the same issues. You will still get a PM to explain and it will be recorded against your account.
Minor stuff will generally be dealt with by removing or editing the post in question (most commonly because you've been involved in a discussion that got moderated). You'll usually just get an alert similar to one you'd get for a new message with a brief description of what has been done and why. These don't have points attached.
There are other options that the mods have to take action but those aren't important here.

* = Not an exhaustive list)
