It's a bit more complicated than that...
A token but inexplicably popular mechanism to reward the needy with meaningless but attractive rewards and so ensure their loyalty.Anyway, what do points make?

it's a personality they've developed for their online life and one they wouldn't use if they met other posters face to face.

Unfortunately it was because many people don't like to be moderated and a few saw Contact the Staff as somewhere to abuse the moderators out of the public eye and where they knew we couldn't ignore it. This is not what Shaun intended the feature to be used for at all.I wonder why the contact the staff section had to be removed....
I've liked this post, but only in an ironic way. Many years ago, during corporate cutbacks(read pay and bonus freeze) I remember the introduction of a sort of certificate or voucher thingy. So that we could be officially thanked and recognised for efforts in the absence of financial reward. As far as I am aware it died a quick death and no-one ever had the nerve to actually issue any...I always wondered if the genius behind it got a voucher or a financial reward.

also to for moderators to abuse their power and threaten members for merely having the audacity to complain, this was done with impunity as it was away from the public eye, it also encouraged the turning of a blind eye to such abuse from those expected not too.
funny how you only speak of one side and not the other, says alot about why that section was removed.
Untrue and don't forget that you contacted us, not the other way around.also for moderators to abuse their power and threaten members for merely having the audacity to complain, this was done with impunity as it was away from the public eye, it also encouraged the turning of a blind eye to such abuse from those expected not too.
