News coming out from the USA that they launched an "over the horizon" attack with a drone launched from the Middle East. The attack was on the planner of the airport bombing. He was hit while travelling in a car.

That must send a sobering message to ISIS K and the Taliban.

Jannie thinks tha Americans can just type in your registration number and press the button now 😊 Either that, or they are using that tracker, we all got with the second injection. 😁

The history of the past 40 years or so very strongly suggests otherwise.

To put it another way, "doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is a form of insanity". (Quote apparently misattributed to Einstein)

I doubt it will trouble the forces of evil very much. Just more proof that western values can’t be imposed by a guided missile or a gun.
More atrocities are being planned as we write and we are powerless to stop them.

Shouldn't this be in NaCA?

At the end of the day this all the fault of ISIS and Taliban extremists. Forgive the tautology.
Russia invaded in late 1979, gave up in 1989. Then US & UK invaded in 2001 (remember 9/11?), gave up in 2021.
And what other posts have said.

Meanwhile, like Brexit, who on earth ever imagined this would happen eh?

Maybe we could airlift Afghan lorry drivers?

So, somebody murders some people. The US react by murdering the person they think (but who knows whether or not they're actually guilty) planned the original murders. Now the supporters of that person will no doubt be planning more murders in revenge. How does this improve the situation?

I have deep reservations.

To identify and locate this chap so quickly is doubtful if he is a clean sheet.

It is likely they know who he is and what he does, and have done for some time to locate him like that so quickly.

This being the case, there is a massive failure of inteiilgence to know about this gent and his activities, yet still allow him to plan and execute successful bombings in Kabul (if indeed it was he who did).

The Americans can't have it both ways - if it was genuinely a successful strike so massively quickly, theyve know this guy for a while. If they've know his as a Tango for a while then why have they waited until hes orchestrated the killing of 14 odd US servicemen and dozens of civilians before punching his ticket?

The Biden administration badly needs so good news and has put a disproportionately positive spin on this, but anyone with even a cursory knowledge of involvement of such matters are screaming that it is yet another serious clanger that Biden has dropped.

What do you suggest instead? A disapproving shake of the head? A finger wagging? A clip around the ear and told to stand in the corner?

Seriously, what would you do?

Because, despite the fact that the US's reputation is in the dumper, to have done a preemptive strike whose reason/intelligence they could never have revealed would have been a diplomatic disaster at a time when they need a few friends. It's just the rules of the game for those who at least make a show of upholding the Rule of Law.

It doesn't even need a pre-emptive strike.

If one has the intelligence, one can act accordingly. Something as simple as welding the airport gates shut beforehand (which they only did after the bombing) would have saved the lives of 13 odd US serviceman.

One doesn't need to rub someone out to effectively counter them.

Whichever way you look at it, there is either a catastrophic failure to gather intel, or a catastrophic failure to act upon it.
