Super Cannes is excellent - there aren't many more accute satirical pictures of the state we are in than Ballard's. IMHO of course...

I am reading 'Our Fathers' by Andrew Hagan. When I started it, I was prepared to dislike its very deliberately and self-consciously 'literary' style, but as I have got into the story, it has become gradually more beautiful.

I picked up "In search of Robert Millar" again last night at about 1am couldn't sleep and got captivated in the chapter about the doctor who believed in Hormone Re balancing.

.

I thought it was sensationalised, melodramatic, unbelievable drivel written with a view to someone picking it up for a film (IMHO of course;)). But vive la difference as we say in Cannes!

As opposed to 'split the difference', as one says in Croatia!

I'm about to start 'The Master and Margarita' by Mikhail Bulgakov.
I've heard it's a classic.

Yes, it's drivel isn't it. Pompous or what? One of the few things I've ever given up reading in disgust, if not from sheer boredom.

Funnily enough, I couldn't 'get on' with The Dice Man - another 'classic'.
Anyone put me right?
