For 11 speed they're probably all much of a muchness. The only chain I've ever snapped was a new shimano, probably because it hadn't been fitted properly by the shop. I've had other shimano chains since that have been fine. Given the choice, I'll usually pick a wipperman because they're reasonably priced and I've always found their quick link (supplied with a new chain) to be very reliable and quick (I'm looking at you SRAM!).

Okay, thanks - it looks like KMC are the answer.

Next, what would I notice between a chain at £17 and £35? Aside from weight, what would separate them?

In my opinion nothing. Save your money and get the cheaper option.

I find nothing wrong with shimano but I use a KMC link on them (instead of the supplied snap off pin) which bumps up the price, so I always now use KMC chains that are supplied with a snap link.

I use 8 and 9 speed and change often.

Ive settled to KMC. Simply because they are cheap, reliable, I prefer their joining and they seem to stay cleaner.
