Marathon Plus for me. No "inconvenient stops" since I fitted them.

I'm using Conti Contacts at the moment. They've been pretty bomb proof IME one p'ture in 7000mls; that was just after a few weeks and a glass bottle which I should of noticed, touch wood they've been p'ture free for over 6500miles. They are wide however, 37mm and I keep on saying I'll replace them when they wear out but they haven't. When they finally do I think I'll go for them again.

ive heard lots of good things about them, are they any harder to mount than the usual?

They are certainly not the easiest to get on the rims (read utter pig to fit).

 Will do that,I had the Bontrager hardcare tyres before these and I didnt think much to them, they got cut bad so easily.

Well I have just pulled a huge lump of glass out of my Marathon Plus (big enough that I can see the blue protective layer) and no loss of air.

Probably need a new tyre though

I was actually getting worried about what you just said,The other week I had some glass lodged in the rear tyre as deep as the blue layer,It still held the air but the cut was quite deep, would you personally keep using it for now or replace?

To be honest the tyre is due for replacement anyway, I have had larger cuts before exposing the blue layer and carried using them with no problems, this one just seems to have gone in deeper (it looked like safety glass)

TBH I fancy swapping to Durano Plus tyres to see if they are any quicker, but caution will probably keep me with the Marathon Plus (better the devil you know)

yeah,I reckon that when this pair finally goes I might switch to the Marathons to give them a go,Must add that I have had no issues with Duranos at all,I even used them during the severe Ice & slush we had in December/January of this year and I found them to be very good.

I have a love of Bontrager Race Lites. Currently using Ultra Gatorskins by Conti. Not as good in the wet, havent had a proper puncture in about 2 years now. I find there are a lot of great tyres about, not too keen on marathon's though myself. They seem overkill for 99% of commuters.

Another vote for M+

I didn't think that they were difficult to put on, but there is a technique - Google it. Demands strong hands though.

I found the tyres a little heavy, especially up hills & when weaving through busy traffic, so replaced the front with a regular Marathon. Don't need as much protection at the front and a lighter tyre helps makes more nimble handling.

No roadside repairs thus far.

A lot of people don't like M+ - depends on your personal preference and the types of roads you're riding on.

I think thats very true. I have heard (possibly on here) of people using them for cyclepaths due to the glass and such. Not much call for them here imo:smile:

We had people down my way throwing pins and nails into the road where they knew commuting cyclists went by on a daily basis

That's my reasoning. My commute through London is glass, potholes and road works end to end with the country side bike paths for a pleasant jaunt at the weekend. P******* ratio to ride out was high before I got them both on commute and dirt track. Now, touch wood, it's zero.
