That's my reasoning. My commute through London is glass, potholes and road works end to end with the country side bike paths for a pleasant jaunt at the weekend. P******* ratio to ride out was high before I got them both on commute and dirt track. Now, touch wood, it's zero.

Which part of London do you commute through? Mine takes me through Leyton/Hackney/Bethnal green etc

Currently Highgate to Southwark via Kings Cross, York road. The back end is extending next week to be East Finchley to Southwark. The Kings Cross and Farringdon bits are the worst due to all the building works.

I've tried a fair few of the recomended roadie commuter tyres and ended up on Scwalbe Luganos, very happy with them for the last 18 months, very cheap, fast and hard wearing, the odd flat sure but not enough to make me want to move up to a heavier/expensiver tyre

Was using Marathon+ tyres for my general commuter but right now I'm wearing down the OE supplied tyres on the Boardman Hybrid (Maxxis Detonators iirc). If it's the fixie or road bike then Michi Pro 3 Race. I have very few punctures.

I have Bontrager Race Lite Hardcases on my bikes at the moment. 700cx28 on the fixed I use mostly for commuting, and 700cx23 on the Dawes I use for the Sunday runs. Had one one the front of the fixed since October last year, put them on the back of the fixed and on the Dawes at the beginning of January. The only deflation event with them so far was caused by the tube splitting around the base of the valve.

Another vote for M+

I didn't think that they were difficult to put on, but there is a technique - Google it. Demands strong hands though.

I found the tyres a little heavy, especially up hills & when weaving through busy traffic, so replaced the front with a regular Marathon. Don't need as much protection at the front and a lighter tyre helps makes more nimble handling.

No roadside repairs thus far.

A lot of people don't like M+ - depends on your personal preference and the types of roads you're riding on.

Agree with this.
Horrible tryes to ride on it's like riding through mud with them on.

Pain to get on, You'll need the octopus method, I had to use tyre levers, held one with one hand one with my foot and then used the other hand to get the last bit of tyre on.

It depends on the risk really. I went to February from Sept with skinny tyres on my hybrid before any incident but as the winter was extended i decided to change anyway.

I reckon for a short commute though (under 30 mins) you could get away with faster rolling tyres and if you do have an incident just have to stop and pump them up and battle on home/work.

Infact I am thinking come May ish The skinny tyres are going back on and keep the M+ for Novemeber to April

In all honesty 700x28C M+ aren't that bad, sure they're not something you'd race on but I registered about 0.25-0.5mph reduction in my ave speed. What I did notice wasn't their straight line speed or even climbing speed, it was how much slower you have to go round corners!

To be honest the tyre is due for replacement anyway, I have had larger cuts before exposing the blue layer and carried using them with no problems, this one just seems to have gone in deeper (it looked like safety glass)

TBH I fancy swapping to Durano Plus tyres to see if they are any quicker, but caution will probably keep me with the Marathon Plus (better the devil you know)

I use the Plus in the winter and the Supremes in the summer, with XRs if the weather is really snowy or muddy

All seem equally robust and p*nct*re proof, but the Supremes are certainly a faster tyre
