A glance out of the lounge window and I spotted a visitor in a lesser used part of the garden. A hurried scramble for a long lens and a working SD card and I was rewarded by this shot.

When I first spotted the varmint it was munching on what was obviously a bird wing. Closer inspection and all I found was the best part of one wing, a few feathers and one long bone, so the fox had clearly either found a bit of carrion, or portioned it up to enjoy at its leisure.

I am however stumped at what has met its maker. Here we are, the colours have me a bit baffled, the main pinions are about 17 cm long. Any twitchers help me out?

The fox that comes in my garden is after my cat

We have several foxes living locally. One of them is best friends with next door neighbours' dog and comes to call for him. They run down down the street together and disappear into the roundabout before the pooch returns with the fox padding beside him. We occasionally see them mid-afternoon basking in the sun on the roundabout and they seem unfazed by human presence.

As for the bird - collared dove? http://www.rspb.org.uk/discoverande...earn/birdguide/name/c/collareddove/index.aspx
