The subheading could be "And do l want more" ?
At the moment l have 8 bikes 7 of which are rideable and one is in the process of being built !
Of course it is a treat to be surrounded by what to my eyes are beautiful machines but in reality l ride only three of them. One l built as a winter ride, steel frame ,Campagnolo equipped incl. wheels. Probably cost me nearly £1000 if l am honest, and is a fairly run of the mill ride.
Then there is the LOOK , steel frame Columbus Neuron and Shimano 600 tricolour groupset. Total weight just over 9kg. A dream to ride as fast as you dare.
Finally the Vitus 992, faster than the Look but a whole lot stiffer. Shimano Dura Ace groupset, need l say more? Apart from you better ride with your jaw closed or you might well bite off your tongue. On our fairly uneven roads you feel every little vibration... I absolutely love it and hope l never need to sell it.
So that leaves four very rideable bikes, including a TVT HR carbon which is great to look at but far far to stiff for my roads and is just exhausting to ride. Not forgetting a Faggin and a Coppi and a Viscount (promised to someone) which is to big for me anyway.
Maybe lm just having an off day but since l dont usually buy bikes with the intention of selling them on for a profit, l can't come up with a reason to go looking for more.
Am l right or have l missed the point somewhere .......What do you folks think ??

Is there a "the" point? Maybe you've found your point, but it's not my point - one road bike at a time is enough for me, but I do currently have two roadsters which are each rather different beasts and for sheer travel practicality, I wouldn't want to be without a folding bike.

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
I'm in the process of 'tidying up' my collection:

Raleigh Twenty - going on sale later today
Eastway - hopefully sold via here soon
Dawes Galaxy - going on sale in March
Olmo Rigel - also going on sale in March
Principia TT2 - my 14yo has 'taken ownership' apparently

Keeping:

Willier Montegrappa - commuter
NeilPryde Nazare - fast, probably above my skill level
Ridgeback Platinum - useful audax bike
Raleigh Pioneer - useful town / bad weather bike
Raleigh Equipe - track bike, basic but fine for me

Unsure whether to keep or sell:

Raleigh Sports - from 1950 and I can't see me using it much
GT 1990's MTB - I've not used it all winter. It may simply get stored at work and then I'll see

Hang on a minute is the Raleigh 20 not your steed for PBP? Maybe wait till you definitely know you will not be doping PBP?

What do we want from our bicycles ?

Good question and my answers are
  1. i want a reliable machine or two for my daily commutes
  2. i want a couple of wet weather equipped bikes for pleasure rides
  3. i want a couple of retro road bikes for those drier days
  4. i want a spare bike or two that can multi task themselves into any of the above positions .
