I don't get it: a couple with two incomes.

They pay joint bills and costs.
His remaining money is his.
Her remaining money is hers.

Given that this is a light-hearted thread - no problem atall.

If this was a serious thread and a serious question - the problem is the difference between being two people who happen to share certain things for convenience, and being in a committed relationship.

Do more.
I stroll in proudly with my new purchases, be the cycling related. Or expensive electrical items for my studio.

No one to argue with. Life rules. I have awesome stuff and none of the guilt

If I buy anything for my bike, I have to buy two of them as the enemy will want one for her bike too.

But when it comes to buying stuff for me drums, then it's all a bit Secret Squirrel, with a machine gun cane, with a rattatattatat....

I always feel guilty as sin even when I've got nothing to declare at an airport, so there's no way I'd even contemplate getting anything into our home without going through the proper channel.

As far as I remember from my pre-spinster pre-mad cat lady days  problems arise when there's disagreement about joint purchases.
Example: you might be happy cooking on a camping stove, she wants an Aga
In my case it was cars: my late partner always wanted more car than I could afford, earning less than him.
