Listen to some stirring/uplifting music. I'm a Wagner fan (probably not to everyone's taste) alternatively I like the Grateful Dead, Dave Edmunds and Graham Parker.

Never i thought better of you.

Yes, I don't understand what is confusing about the idea of choosing to watch a DVD to try and forget one's problems!

It is rather ironic that people always seem to ask this kind of question when one is struggling not to feel fed up - example.

If riding the bike is not an acceptable answer, then I'll settle for 'walking over the local hills and calling in at a cafe afterwards'.

Apart from the aforementioned geekfests with coding I find the following soothing and gratifying:

Aeromodelling - just returned to it after clearing junk from my shed
.
Funny, I've just given it up after 25 years, made a huge space in the garage. Lack of time due to new job.
Fed up a lot lately, and since I'm not allowed to go for a ride I invariably end up on forums, Facebook, PS2, or asleep

Given his distasteful posts about female cyclists and lycra earlier on in the thread, my suspicion is that he's suggesting that his idea of a good DVD to cheer himself up is porn. I hope I'm wrong about this but I’m feeling pretty sick at the thought of someone making such comments on the back of my honesty about my mental health.

Oh, I didn't think of that ...

I find that some people do not want to hear bad news so they tune it out, make (usually bad) jokes about it, and so on.

Somebody who knew I had been seriously ill asked how I was doing. It was clear to me that they knew about the original illness, but were unaware that my recovery had stalled or that I had been back in hospital. I told them what had happened and their eyes glazed over, they looked uncomfortable, then they interrupted me and said "Yeah, yeah, that was then, but you are ok now, right?" Well, er, no ...

I suppose the best answer to the original question 'what do you do when you get fed up?' is 'try to be kind to yourself, spend time with kind people, and try to avoid unkind thoughts and unkind people'.

I walk the younger dogs or I read a book. I practice my guitar.
Been fed up more lately as I don't have much work on so guitar practice is coming along, I have got through 4 books lately, the flat is tidy too and I have got decorating planned for this weekend. Having nice freshly decorated walls in a nice colour rather than the dark colours that were in here to start with is very un-fed-upping.
