There is going to be a day when whenever someone leaves the house, by what ever means, they will have to wear bloody hi-viz.

At our work we now need to wear a hi viz vest to access the building via the parking garage, unless you are in a car or on a bike. I wish I had a job where I could just make us stupid rules all day.

Horse riders have used them for ages.

Looking like a nob or not, I have definitely seen drivers doing a double take and slowing so if someone wants to wear one they should.

I don't need vulnerable road users (or any road users for that matter) to wear hi-viz to 'help' me 'see them'.......I see them anyway because I am already LOOKING for them. I am a very observant and careful/considerate driver/cyclist, and drive/ride accordingly.

The creeping H&S bullsh*t that has infested the workplace is being pushed onto cyclists......my question is why?

Any H&S risk assessment will only use PPE as a final measure, and it would not at the first thing to use. H&S legislation would address/remove the hazard rather than make the most vulnerable road user dress up like Bob the Builder.
You are pretty much the first person I have heard say PPE is only there as a final measure, and I am glad  People forget that a lot

One word of warning re these vests, a while back there was a watchdog type programme & they had some of these & other cheaper high vis tops & the reflective markings were not upto BS standards & not recommended for use on the road. Some of the really cheap 'poundshop' tops had close to zero relective properties.
