Not thought of it in such a *ahem* technical way, but i do the same, listen to the tyres and the different noises they make as the speed fluctuates.

Then I will drift off and either start to day dream (and slow down) or try and push myself harder and faster.

I've ridden a fair few sets of racing tubs (in the past) - OMG do they run nice...hssssssssssssssss (flippin sad.)

Recently, it's been..."Thank god I'm not in a car....air conditioned or not" - fresh air over my body...nice.............

I think about the ride. Nothing else.

More accurately I am thinking about my speed, my average speed, where I am, the next hill, about reaching for my water bottle, the wind direction, the occasional car, the occasional cyclist, the occasional sheep, how smooth/bumpy the road is, my slightly numb fingers, the joy of whooshing down a hill, the joy of getting to the top of one a little quicker than before, the frightening rate of my breathing, the excitement as I get close to home that I might beat my previous average....

I love cycling for all of these things. The reason, because they have absolutely no connection with the rest of my life. Not that my life is bad. Actually pretty good, but there is still nothing to beat thinking only for the moment.

If I am on a long road, I start to think about how I am pedalling. Am I pushing or pulling? I will play around with ankling, concentrating on the motion, trying to get a little more speed.

It's not Jeremy Kyle himself that I can't abide, it's the tracksuit-wearing, gold (imitation) jewelry encrusted, BB cap chav idiots given prime time TV, when that time could be devoted to inspiring the nation to do adventure sports.
