Bone Tomahawk (2015) ... Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox, western, some well known actors good rating but it wasn't as good as I hoped or expected, 6/10

I felt the same after I'd seen it at the cinema for the first time but would recommend a repeat viewing, the way tension builds is brilliant. I'd known too much about it first time and was just waiting for the horrible bits, which are truly disgusting.

Pitch Perfect 3.
Not as good as the first, but better than the second. 7/10 because I have a girl crush on Anna Kendrick

Not to mention one of the best finales in cinema history - now blunted by familiarity, it must have been stunning on release.

Still powerfull now, but a shock on first viewing. Sadly Mrs Pp had nodded off well before that point - she may re-watch so i didn't mention it. When the film started, she asked "have they arrived back on Earth?" which I did have to concede

I kind of put this on after a few beers before and nodded off a few times. This time the cat had woken me at midnight and Incouldnt sleep so I watched the whole thing.

Pretty good. Very much a Luc Besson. More than a few touches of the 5th Element. I think the movie is named after the guy, but Cara de Levine was leading, imo.

I’ve heard the books are good, there is certainly a lot of depth to this universe, ultimately thought the movie plot was a little bit light.

7/10

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt, Ted Levine, Jeff Goldblum, went to the cinema with the family, plenty of action, crazy plot but to be fair as are most of the films in this franchise but all in all not too bad, kids loved it 7/10

I may have posted this before but there was a brilliant lampoon on the plausibility of Jurassic park, not on scientific grounds but on business practicalities. "so, you want 3rd party insurance cover for your proposed venture of resurrected dynosaurs. Have you any previous experience of this kind of venture" "oh yes, lots" "excellent, any previous problems or claims on the insurance". "well the dynosaurs did run amok and eat all the visitors.... twice"

Rise of the Foot Solder 2.

Really, it was just utter pap. The original was shocking, scary and clever, but the sequeuel is just a load of swearing and some nutty bloke headbutting people for no reason whatsoever.

Useless fact - among the slightly macabre element of the Land Rover enthusiast community, the Range Rover involved in the Retendon murders is quite sought after and changes hands for ridiculous money.

Nevertheless, one slightly bizarre face can not elevate this film about codswallop status.

2/10.

Bladerunner 2049.
Overall I liked this. A good homage to the first movie, and nearly gets the ex rental VHS moody look right.
Hans Zimmer does a good job of emulating Vangelis. I just want to know if the dog will be ok on it's own.
Good acting and good story. 8/10.

Having covered Planet of the Apes a while ago, now watched the sequel "Beneath the Planet of the Apes". Actually it's pretty good and stands up well enough today. Alegories of the Vietnam war this time, mixed in with bits of Zardoz. Again great music. OK maybe a bit too much being captured, escaping, and captured again, but a worthy follow up, and very bleak.

It's been decades since i've watched them, but as i recall only one of the Planet of the Apes sequels was pants...can't recall which one so i guess I'll have to watch them all

My box set was a fiver including the 4 originals, the Helena Bonham Carter remake, plus the first of the recent reboots.

I recalled "Beneath" as being a bit poor, but as recounted above it was actually pretty good. I seem to remember the next two involve the monkeys going back to our Earth so maybe those are the dodgy ones - I'll report back presently

On the sequel thing, a while back I bought a box set of the three "Scanners" movies. The first is David Cronenberg's sci-fi horror masterpiece, but the next two (not by the nearly always excellent Cronenberg), were respectively very poor and utter shyte. They both went in the bin rather than charity shop as I wouldn't want anyone else to waste 90 mins each on them. Kept the first movie obvioulsy

Aye I've been half keeping an eye out for the box set that doesn't include that dreadful Tim Burton effort... i won't allow it the house!

...but I have just popped over to pirate bay
