The Crazies. Seen it before but watching it again now. I do like virus/plague horrors and this one is pretty good. The thing that most surprises me is, in a town of 1500 people, they have a main Street as wide as some city centers, fully stocked with every type of shop going and a sports field where the whole town watches the game. An equivalently populated town near me has one post office that shuts at 2pm 🤪

I didn't know there was more than one version? I watched the 2010 one. I quite liked the ending, and think there's a sequel in the cinema now or coming soon

Yep, the original is from 1973 by George A. Romero, not his best, but still well worth a watch.

I watched The Thursday Murder Club on Netflix. Very enjoyable.

We also watched that this w/e. Very much enjoyed it. A bit mudsomer murders-y but none the worse for that. Sometimes you fancy an alternative to The Gritty Detective With A Troubled Home Life.

Btw does theatre have a place in this thread? Doesn't seem to have its own thread. I went to see The Pitchfork Disney at the weekend. I actually saw this at the Bush when it was first performed, and caused a bit of a stir. Still as powerful and weird as ever.

We wanted to love it as big fans of the book, but I felt it was a bit rushed and missed out far too much content from the book.

They should just pay some actors to do group reading of the book. Should keep everyone happy.

Or instead of a one-off movie they could do a series and include all the details from the book. And then I'd complain that they were cynically spreading the material too thin just for advertising revenue, and I can't be arsed to watch this tedious slow moving rubbish, open Wikipedia, review the plot and not bother watching after the first episode.

Or they could just leave it as a book.

Two films watched recently, which is unheard of for me.

The Phoenician Scheme is the latest Wes Anderson film. I'm reasonably sure these films are marmite, but I fall firmly into the love category.
Stellar cast, quirky as you like with both dialogue, camera angles/techniques, and backdrops.
Thoroughly enjoyed it - for me 9/10, pure entertainment with some great intelligent humour.
As an aside, which I realised afterwards, the Nun is Kate Winslet's daughter - the voice will remind you for sure.

At the cinema took my 12 year daughter to see the F1 film - she rated it 10/10, I gave it 9/10.

It's not one for purists, there are a lot of things that simply wouldn't happen, but I guess they have to make it work for an audience who know nothing about F1. I purposely read no reviews, or looked to see what the plot was, and there were enough surprises, and unexpected occurrences to keep me really focussed. It's something in excess of 2.5 hours, but very much did not feel like it.
As long as you don't get angsty about the inaccuracies, and let yourself enjoy it, I think you will find it good solid entertainment.
