No. It's what we believed back in the day. On a Sturmey Archer three speed gear system, if you left the bike in third gear the cable was slack and no tension on the springs. So you saved the cable from stretching, which was bollox of course. We now know that metal cables don't stretch and springs are not troubled by being under tension.But does it make any more sense for a hub gear than a derailleur?
I like to "ease springs" ie let the tension out of the system .Trouble is this puts you in a cross chain position for setting off again.
