Bit late with one of these.....
May 31st we saw Jorja Smith in her home town of Wolverhampton.
She was evidently a little nervous, and admitted as much, but warmed up as the gig went on, and was superb - incredible voice, brilliant band, and she was joined for a couple of tracks by a local choir she helped start/sponsor.
One issue, I thought, was that the set design (If you watched her at big weekend you would have seen it) effectively completely isolated her from her band, who were behind a partition of sorts around the edge back of the stage, and she was front and middle.
It felt like she was more at ease when able to perform with other people around her - not uncommon I'd say.
Saturday night was a total treat, and I knew it would be incredible, but didn't quite appreciate how good it would be.
Dua Lipa and my first visit to the new Wembley Stadium - had many visits to the original one.
Venue was lovely, staff very friendly (Food and drink well over priced as you would expect), support acts were ok, but the main attraction was on another level of entertainment.
She was on for 2 hours, with very small breaks for costume changes (5 in total I think) and it was effectively a non stop dancing party - hit after hit after hit - I couldn't believe my eyes when I actually looked at my watch to realise 1hr 45 had passed.
My partner and our daughter loved it just as much as me, and I sourced a nice custom printed T-shirt for my daughter as a christmas present with the concert date details on it - the ticket was a present as well.
Brilliant writer, great voice, incredible dancer, great rapport with the crowd, and you can tell she absolutely thrives on performing on stage, she totally commanded both stages, and I think if she wants to, she will have real longevity and be around for many years to come.
Somewhat gutted that the day before she'd had JK on stage, and they had performed Virtual Insanity, we lucked out and had Charli XCX instead - she's not remotely in the same league as either JK or Dua in my humble opinion. At least it wasn't Elton John I suppose.
October we go to see Katy Perry, and in November we have a first time seeing Joy Crookes live, and I reckon that could be pretty special.
She's on Glasto this Sunday I believe, and was on the later with Jools series earlier this year, as well as a Hootenanny from a few years back.
