Another example of why EVERYBODY in music in the 70s and early 80s thinks that they were the inspiration for Spinal Tap.

I had to do a search to see if he picked himself up and carried on. The answer was 'yes' but it seemed to suddenly get very strange from that point until the end of the song.

there is a song about the incident ' real tears in both eyes'

When i went to see John Otway a few years back he was the doorman. It's the only time I've had a concert ticket checked by the act.

I've had it at least on e test I remember. A more frequent occurrence is the band rushing from the stage to the merch desk to flog stuff at the end, or one occasion the support act flogging CDs from a suitcase on the street outside.

Okay technically Sunday...

Oasis - genuinely superb entertainment, event and atmosphere, played lots of hits and favourites, long set (available on Spotify for the order and songs), big smiles after and a gig with two of my children and tickets bought as a surprise for me

Richard Ashcroft - did a mainly Verve / Urban Hymns set and surprise of the day

Cast - okay some good songs, suspect if I had any musical abilities I may have appreciated them more

Cast of the bits of the La's with no talent.

I went to see The La's when NME had them down as the next big thing. There She Goes was riding highish in the charts and we all thought we were going to see something really special. We weren't. Their tiresome set consisted of one decent song. I've taken the opinion of the music press with a pinch of salt ever since.

Lee Mavers was the talent behind the La's. The start was promising and they could have gone on to greater heights, but Mavers is one of those compulsive perfectionists. Instead of moving to the next album project he's spent the last 30 years trying to re record the original album how he wanted it, and not how the record company made him do it.

The rest of the band, the ones with no songwriting talent and only the most basic instrumental skills, got tired of waiting and went and formed Cast. They needn't have bothered.

I expect we'll hear no more from Mavers, but it is certainly an intriguing "what might have been?"

Watching Guy Garveys: From The Vaults (1989) on Sky Arts, and this pops up.

Oh yea, I can see -totally- where Cleat is coming from.

Very harsh on Cast, perfectly decent britpop. They had some really good catchy songs.

Fine Time is excellent, Sandstorm is good too.

I remember seeing The Las at Cardiff University. That was a very very long time ago 😭
