Puzzle game procrastinator!
I put new tyres on because the old ones had cracks in the rubber, so it now runs on Marathon Greenguard tyres.
I have those on the new wheels that I just bought from @sevenfourate. (More on that below**.) The bigger tyres should be more comfortable than the originals.

Completely failed to straighten out a wheel: I managed to replace the spokes and get the vertical dings out of it, then I messed up the horizontal straightening to it looks like wet noodle again.

I'll try again next week.
I never got the hang of wheel-straightening! Bearings, tubes, tyres - fine, but once I start messing about with spokes I make matters worse!

When I got back, I removed the mirror and improvised a rubber shim from a length of scrap inner tube...
Well, that turned out to be an improvement, but not a cure! The mirror stayed in position a lot longer than before but did eventually slip round from the vibrations caused by riding my rough local roads. I sorted the problem out properly after finding a plastic shim of the right size in my junk box. I had intended to make a metal shim from an old tin can, but this shim is perfect.

**I put the new front wheel on my CAADX. The Greenguard tyres are 40mm wide vs 35 mm for the old Marathons and that resulted in the tyre scraping the mudguard. The guard can take a tyre of this size but I had to adjust the stays to accommodate it.

I then turned my attention to the rear wheel. There was a problem getting it in. It took me a few seconds to realise that the problem was that it had a 160 mm disk, vs the 140 mm one that it was replacing. I could have sorted the brake out to take a 160, but that would have meant getting hold of a 10 mm spacer for the calliper. I opted for the quicker fix, which was to swap in the 140 from the old wheel. After that, the wheel went in properly.

I now have the same issue with the rear mudguard as with the front. It needs to be adjusted to give the bigger tyre more room. I have stopped for a coffee break and will get back to that shortly. If I have problems with that I will update this post, otherwise assume that all is well.

I will do a test ride on the CAADX over the next few days and post about that in the 'Your Ride Today' thread.

PS I did a very short test ride. Something isn't right! There is a lot of noise from the transmission. I will investigate tomorrow...

Usually best to sort out the lateral (side to side) truing first, then do the radial (up and down) truing second. Did my front wheel about a month back.

Just sorted the rear tyre on the Stayer All Road that kept slowly going down and finally found the hole so new tube in and have repaired the other with a tpu patch and just waiting to see if it holds.

While I was at it and in the mood went through some more that i couldn't be arsed to do previously so a couple more repaired, one for the bin and one to do as I have now run out of tpu patches, will get some more from the old workplace and may investigate the Rene Herse sealant they have as it's designed to seal small holes in tpu tubes.

Also had a check on the chain and although still in spec it was a bit sloppy on little ring and 13th tooth so just took a link out (strange as I don't usually set the chain up that loose),will probably change the cassette once the chain does wear out as this will be the third chain used on it and it's showing a bit of wear on the most used cogs.

Set the workstand up in the shade in the back garden and even treated the four TI bikes and the Elan 725 to a bit of Autoglym to polish up the frames.
Also did the Carrera folder (not pictured) even though it's not been used for a year which was more a case of removing the cobwebs and pumping up the tyres. Anyone want a little used Intercity Disc 9?

I straightened up the hoods on my commuter. After a Ultegra shifter fail earlier this year I borrowed a 10sp 105 shifter so they're miss matched. I think I had angled the 105 shifter too much and it under weight had shifted down the bar. With the Ultegra shifter its so easy to get into the adjuster bolt with the hoods still on. But with the 105 shifter I think you'd have to remove the hood rubber altogether to get to the adjuster bolt. I managed to get into it just by using the ball end of the hex key. Hopefully it's tight enough or it'll slip again 🤨 the bar tape had become a bit loose in places so whilst I never replaced it I took the opportunity to tighten it. When I finally get round to sourcing another Ultegra 10sp shifter or fixing the old one I have new tape sitting here waiting.

Not me, but with a bit of assistance, using the university Bike Hub in Leeds:

- The Giant FCR had a stuck RH crank bolt, which was removed with force. I can now do a crankset upgrade.
- A freewheel removed from the 1984 Peugeot's rear wheel, so I can fit a 7 speed one to be used on the 1989 Peugeot 653.
- A stuck pedal removed from the Peugeot crankset on the 1984 Peugeot. I'll probably do a crank swap.
