What Have You Fettled Today?

Tonight I have fettled some swear-words I didn’t know existed from the back of my brain and out into the open 👍 *Whilst fitting the ever impossible Panaracer Gravelking folding….

I just got a tear in the rear of the outgoing ‘Slick’ model I was using (The lightest, fastest - but least puncture resistant model they made). These are the next model along - slightly heavier, some sort of tread - and much thicker in the actual centre part: with some puncture protection layer.

But make no mistake: these are an utter tw4t to fit whatever you try. And at the moment my thumbs hate me 👎

Got some replacement hex pad bolts to replace the flat head ones on the ultegra and grx callipers, the old ones were still ok to remove but the heads were getting iffy.

Put road wheels and tubeless tyres on the gravel bike, and swapped the cassette over. I was going to put new rotors on those wheels but I was getting a little rubbing and widening the pistons and realigning the brake holder didn't seem to help so I transfered the gravel wheels rotors and they ran smoothly. There must be a technique to disk pad/ holder alignment like with rim brakes that'd take 20-30seconds 🤔

Oh I done the back to front tyre rotation on the front and thought that's ok I could just rotate it. I can't with discs 🤦‍♂️ It wouldn't really matter but I ended up taking it off again, rotating it the right way and refitting.

After the wheels were on I stuck guards on. Well the rear guard that was easy. The rear probably needs a brake bridge (or whatever its called on a disc brake frame) 0attachment but they're metal so I think I'll be ok. I couldn't figure out how to get the front guard on to the fork; there's eyelets at the wheel axle but its smooth at the headset 🤔

I think I'll give the chain a wipe and lube after supper 🤔

Are you running them tubeless? You have fitted the tubeless ready model.
