looking into getting a hybrid bike and getting confused. Not sure if I need suspension on it like the specialized crosstrail, merrida or if I should go for something with out like whyte, sirrius bike or boardman. I do not have a budget. My initial thoughts wee specialized cross

I be using it for cycling to work on the road., occasional cycle paths gravel noting too severe

I wouldn't bother with suspension if riding on the road. Something on decent 28mm tyres say will be fine

What are the whyte range like.

I had an experience test riding a bike over bumpy terrain and not like it too much without the suspension

When yiu buy does the bike come fully made up to ride or is it self assembly. If the later bought from the web how easy is it to assemble

Dunno, got mine on eBay. I bought one bike online, it was all put together other than pedals and the bars needed turning. Saddle obviously needed adjusting and tyres pumping

Why not call them and ask ;)

Like Vickster says, don't waste money on suspension unless you want to go mountain biking. It just adds extra weight to the bike and in most cases, budget suspension is just a gimmick and not very effective. Look at the Specialized Sirrus, Trek 7 series, or Boardman/Giant/Ridgeback equivalents.

Why are people so against a suspension type hybrid? How does the whyte / no suspension handle over cycle paths?

Because suspension on a hybrid adds weight, and slows you down as it's bouncy

I had a crosstrail and a MTB with lockable suspension and both were awful on roads. It's entirely up to you though.

Your title asks 'What hybrid', thus seeking advice. If you choose to take it or ignore it, is down to you

And Whyte ;)
Another vote for Whyte. I recently bought a Stirling and love it. Weighs about 10kg, compared to my Corratec with lock out forks that weighs 16kg
Having said that, the Corratec is still a decent bike, and will still ride both
