27" is 4mm larger radius than 700c. 622mm v 630mm in ERTO

700c can be labelled 28", especially in Germany or Holland but real 28" wheels are what you find on large framed vintage roadsters and are 635mm in ERTO. 635s are the king of tyre sizes and roll majestically on all road surfaces. You haven't lived until you've rode a rod braked roadster.

I thought 27s and 700s were more or less the same size. How can they feel different?

No noticable feeling but the 700 x 23 or 25C air chamber fits in a 27 tire.

700c, 27", 28", are not the same size !... some models of 700" are the same size than 28" ... Exemple : 700x35c and 28" are the same size. and the air chamber of a 700 x 35c fits in a 28" tire....

I picked up a pair of Mavic GP4s with tubs fitted a couple of years back, but haven't got the nerve to commute on them before getting at least one spare to carry. I've got them fitted to a 1987 Raleigh Road Ace at the moment, and they're so smooth and free rolling I'm looking forward to commuting on them - despite all the scare mongers who say punctures are a nightmare!

I went to work on sprints and tubs for 15 years. Never had a major drama, but it's a trade between less likely to puncture on tubs versus easier to fix a wired-on.
