What is the magic ingredient !

I think its the sad lose of Vernon that has prompted me to ask this question and it is what is the magic ingredient of CC.
Most days at various times I am either on here, CTC or CGOAB and I am not about to write disparagingly of either of them because they too have very nice forum members who contribute to making their sites interesting and informative. But they somehow do not possess the warmth of CC members.
At present we are up to twenty pages on the lose of Vernon and I dare say it will rise shortly but I cannot think of anyone that has been so lauded on either CTC or CGOAB.
I just wonder whether the reason could be that the age profile on here is perhaps younger and therefore less inhibited than us old boys of 65 or older.
Another reason could be that to feel a whole part of CC you don't have to ride the latest or expensive bike and you also don't need to be world traveler or whippet thin enough to be able to give Wiggins et al a race for their money.
I know it seems more up North, living in Eastbourne as I do, everywhere is up north, many CCers meet up for a ride but perhaps we should think about having a national meet up one weekend a year.
Mind you that might be a bit difficult to organise.
So what do you think is the magic ingredient !.

My guess would be official neutrality on most topics (a luxury not completely open to organisation-sponsored forums) and fairly fair (AFAICT) and visibly active @Moderators, especially about "Respectful conduct".

We'll pay you the tenner later !! :okay:

Most members are great folk. I've met quite a few and those that I have met are thoroughly decent people. I also think that those who've got lots of experience don't mind sharing it. The general attitude on here is a lot less aggressive than many other forums. We like to keep it inclusive as much as possible.

@Dave7 my son is loving the camera bag you let us have first shout at. It's a cracking bit of kit and has been on his back on the bike and a few treks to the beech to take time lapse photos of the sunset. Thank you !!

It's the people innit.

There is a core of people here who have been around a while and give a lot of themselves. They are confident to show pictures of their faces, let us in to their lives a little and sometimes show vunerability. This gives the forum an openenss and realness that is lacking elsewhere.

Key of course is the structure of the forum with the more robust discussions being in a defined area and disentangled from the general on-topic stuff. This lends itself to showing a friendlier, more welcoming face to the world; that is entirely down to Shaun and the good work of the mods.
