Ooh. Thank you.
I think of roses as being more petals, tighter together. Does that make sense?
Definitely not like the red rose on the label when we bought it though

TMN is probably correct although it's not unknown for retailers (even wholesalers and nurseries) to get the labelling wrong. Where exactly does the shoot originate from? Above or below the graft? Or like you say: Are there white roses ALL over the plant? No red ones anywhere?

Unlikely the red rose will have a bouquet. If it is a white/cream/pinkish/yellowish species rose, whether it is a sucker from below the graft, or the whole plant, you will have a good smell. (The plant that is, but I'm sure you smell ok)

@User13710 will be correct.

Many roses are grafted onto a rootstock. If there is vegetative growth from said rootstock it's known as a.....

SUCKER

Nobody likes a sucker! Keep removing them.

You may have planted the rose too shallow. To try to redress this you can add a mulch around the base of the plant, maybe an inch or 2 at a time.

5 leaves good 7 leaves bad - as Orwell wrote.

Where a grafted rose has suckered, the suckers generally have seven leaves per frond as distinct from the cultivated rose's five leaves.

Oh, that's Rosa Rugosa - very pretty, I have several bushes. They come in pink and white, the bees adore the flowers (they smell exactly like turkish delight) and the hips are as big as cherry tomatoes.
This ^^^^
I planted 6 some years ago and the front gsrden is now covered in them. They spread with root runners and have become a pest despite their beauty.
Also the stems are covered with tiny sharp spines rather than conventional rose thorns. Painful and hard to remove from fingers!

I was going to dig it up, but then it budded.
And of course I can't get to the garden centre!! Not sure what to do with it now.
