That was a great few minutes read! I had a physics teacher that claimed to have recalibrated the speedo on his Series One Landrover to furlongs per fortnight.

Douglas Adams crops up of course, a master of observational wit and tickles the intellect around physics. In The Restaurant at The End of The Universe he describes a ship that is propelled by "Bistro Drive" which is derived from the brainpower used by an odd number of diners trying to divide a bill for a meal fairly between all parties present, where one of them has had an extra portion of rice.

I don't understand your cynicism - four cubits is six feet, 3.5 is about five feet three. Neither of these heights seem terribly far fetched to me...
