I don't understand your cynicism - four cubits is six feet, 3.5 is about five feet three. Neither of these heights seem terribly far fetched to me...

But then have you met Fluff? I'd hazard a guess at 2 cubits tops...

Same with a certain other contributor. Having seen him on a dark lane on a dark night (shudder!) I find it difficult to comprehend.

And I'm not saying Fluff is short but.......

I don't believe the inch was standardised by a certain number of millimetres...

Just as well they didn't make bicycles in biblical times. It's confusing enough working out what your frame size is.

Most people's height equals the distance between outstretched fingertips, by the way.

And the barleycorn (a third of an inch) is the measurement on which the British shoe size system is based. size 12 is 12", and other sizes are numbers of barleycorns smaller or larger (11 is 12" minus a barleycorn, 13 is 12" plus a barleycorn etc)

In 18" cubits, I'm 3.5.

Oh no it wasn't. The standard inch in 1066 was three barleycorns.
I hope you're not going to tell me the standard barleycorn was 8.466mm ^_^
