The Birmingham Greeting is "alright?"

This is not a question. It is not an attempt to ask after your health, or general state of well-being. It does not infer an attempt to be-friend you by showing a caring attitude. It is not an opening gambit on a discussion on truth, accuracy, political views, location of shops, or how the day has been panning out. It is a greeting.

Correct response is:
"Alright?"

Other things that confused me in Birmingham when I arrived:
You buy cans of alcohol at an "outdoors". I see nothing particularly outdoorish about an outdoors, but there you go.

"Bab" is an appropriate greeting for any woman, and "bint" isn't that offensive either. Just don't use it for someone you have only just met.

Hold on, just looked at the map, and Brockencote Hall is definitely not in Birmingham. Its in rural North Worcestershire, and right close to my favourite cycling territory. You are just at the bottom end of a good run, and then its head north for the hills again.

Ah selly Oak.. is the Selly Sausage still there?

3 happy years dropping off and collecting No.1 son from his dodgy rented houses... one had an earth floor in the downstairs bathroom covered with a bit of vinyl flooring, off the kitchen with a wc connected to the soil pipe with a bit of flexible plastic ducting from an extract fan. Class.

Ah your in Kidder Big rather than Birmingham. Where I spent some of my formative years (well in and around Bewdley, which is about five mile away, actually).

Just to be pedantic, Brockencote Hall isn't in Kidderminster either it's next to Chaddesley Corbett. I used to live in Kidder and went to church in Harvington which is just up the road from you. Harvington Hall is worth a visit if you are able to.

You won't find many Birmingham accents around there to be honest. Chaddesley is quite posh.
