After looking out the window and realizing it'd be another cold, icy cycle to work my brain straight away decided to tell me to take the train. i mean at the best of times we don't want to go to work right?
not to be deterred i went into the bathroom and weighed myself. motivation problem solved!
wasn't all that bad in the end, even got passed by two emergency vehicles without problem as the cars around were fairly spaced out.

So what motivated you this cold morning? :cold:

Don't really need motivation to do my cycle commute, what ever the weather.
I just have to remind myself how crap and horrid doing the commute by train is.

I was motivated by last night's wind lashing the building I live in to take PT this morning. Watching the cyclists from the comfort of the bus wasn't as painful as I thought it would be. Stepping on the scales this morning has also motivated me to wrap up the fingers and head out for a run this evening :cold:

I hate driving to work, I love cycling to work, no motivation needed. The only motivation I need is for the distance I do, did just over 24 miles this morning chasing time for the Giro Challenge, need to do just over 6 hours now

Catching the tube/train yesterday was all the motivation I needed: the Victoria line rammed full, with the the driver patiently asking people to get in or move away from the doors as my nose was jammed in an armpit; and the train with it's message "we intend to run normal schedule tomorrow, but please check before leaving home"

Cycling was a joy, despite the contant headwind and the fact that I need to use a hair dryer to warm my toes enough to feel them.

I had the pleasure of receiving a dead leg during football last night, but even the thought of pain with every pedal stroke in addition to the biting cold and inevitable plum theft (see yesterday's posting) still wasn't enough to persuade me to take the car.

Although if you also see my post in GCD you'll see why even a £5 a day saving on fuel is quite welcome at the minute!

I'll echo the public transport sentiment. It's a 10 minute walk to the station, wait around on a cold platform, get on a train and pray I have a seat then change in town to use the tube and I don't even know where the feck I'm going as I navigate town by bike :-)

I'm always amazed at friends who rattle off tube journeys from point A to point B, my mental London map consists of bike routes from the south to the various bridges and if it's somewhere I've not been before a quick check on Google Maps usually sorts me out to finish up the missing sections of a route.

Even with the cold weather and headwind I just see it as character building :-)

when I started cycle commuting I told myself it was all or nothing. If I allowed myself to pick and choose the days I cycled in, it would be too easy to find an excuse.

Indeed. Felt the same myself when I got back on the bike years ago. Didn't want to choose. So just went for it. Was tough at times and still is now and again. But just get on with it. There are far more good commute cycling days then bad.

I love driving, I love cycling.

Have to drive at the moment though, recovering from flu but i did think last nights ride home would have been an evil one ^_^
