after two redundancies in 2013 (March & Sept), I've learnt that an employee is an expense and therefore the first place where costs can be cut. I've also learnt that when ones bosses decide to move to a new flashy office that costs the equivalent of a single member of staff, they haven't got their business head screwed on properly. I've also learnt that 'sods law' is the only thing i can rely on, because 'sods law' will pop up and screw me when I least expect it.

i learned that you can get vertigo from a migraine and that i'm very prone to migraines.
i learned not to have work colleagues on facebook because it causes all sorts of hassle.
i also learned quite a few different songs, and that i can write songs without all the previous brain fizzing as long as i find an idea and run with it.
i learned george r. r. martin is a pretty awful writer and that the fantasy and sci-fi writing community hate having all their work compared to his.

You reminded me! I learned that if a motorist slams his brakes on in front of me, reverses and repeatedly offers to 'put me a hole' then I can deal with the situation with remarkable calm. But ten minutes later I'll get a migraine that blurs my vision.

NHS hospital food is horrid
Don't always trust the consultant, sometimes they are wrong.....
Daytime TV is more boring than I thought
The internet will not provide endless entertainment
Whilst being off work is great, being off work when you cannot walk is not

Oh, and 2 bikes is not enough, and yes you should order the 3rd one:smile:. Though it being delivered to the bike shop 4 days after being discharged from hospital will get you on the wrong side of SWMBO.....

I once again learned that the more I give the more others take, the more I trust the more I am taken for granted, the more I try to be nice the more people see it as weakness. I learned that I am better and stronger mentally than 99% of those around me, that my values are higher, that my experiences greater and that others are jealous of who I am, what I have and that they allow that jealousy to turn into spite, I learned that I have to be far more careful who I allow into my life, that I need to not allow myself to fall to their level, that I need to respect them still and continue to treat them how I want to be treated myself, no matter how shitty they treat me.

I learned that binning all the people who caused drama actually did make my life better.

I finally learnt how to skid to a halt on my mountain bike without coming off it () - never been able to previously, just don't ask.
I learnt that I can do jumps on my mtb and stay on the bike afterwards...
And I also learnt that coming off said bike (twice in one year) does not necessarily hurt straight away but more than makes up for it later on in the week/month/year (delete as appropriate)....:B)

My OH 'learnt' that (I quote) "he doesn't need to beat me up, I do a good enough job of it myself!" as we were separated to be questioned subtly by A&E staff when he took me for an x-ray.... :B) (black eye, bruised forehead, broken ribs and suspected thumb fracture...) after one of those falls from my mtb...

and finally a 42 mile commute is best done only 2 or 3 times a week, its best not to look up the weather forecast beforehand (too depressing) and still takes me a very long time to do and I am not getting any quicker!

Began to get my head around another set of chord fingerings: this time for tenor guitar. (I already play guitar, ukulele and 5 string banjo).

One of these days, I might get the hang of at least one of them.......
